What is ghassoul clay? Benefits and uses

Finally, this famous clay improves skin elasticity and reduces fine lines, as it reverses the loss of collagen, a substance responsible for maintaining skin firmness and elasticity.

Have you had the pleasure of trying ghassoul clay? This treasure that nature offers us is a great ally for skin and hair care.

Over the past year, the use of clays in natural cosmetics has skyrocketed. However, natural ghassoul clay has had its fans since time immemorial. If you haven't tried it yet, in this post we'll give you the reasons to do so. Here we go!

Have you heard of ghassoul clay?

Ghassoul, also called rhassoul, is a volcanic clay that has been extracted from the Atlas Mountains, specifically from northeast Africa, for centuries.

The extraction process is very simple. First, ghassoul is extracted from underground mines located in Morocco, then it is washed to remove all impurities, and finally, it is left to dry in the sun before being ground into powder.

This mineral-rich clay has become famous in natural cosmetics for its benefits and effectiveness in hair and skin care. Therefore, it's not surprising that ghassoul clay is popularly known as "golden clay" and is widely used in beauty salons, Arab baths, and more.

What are the properties of ghassoul?

As we've mentioned, natural ghassoul clay is rich in minerals such as silica, iron, calcium, and potassium.

Its main property is its great absorbent power, superior to that of any other clay. This helps control excess sebum, purify the skin, and eliminate all impurities and dead cells. It also cleanses and regulates the oiliness of the scalp, eliminating dandruff and preventing its appearance.

Another notable feature is that ghassoul clay acts as a soothing and anti-inflammatory, reducing redness, soothing irritation, and softening the skin.

Finally, this famous clay improves skin elasticity and reduces fine lines, as it reverses the loss of collagen, a substance responsible for maintaining skin firmness and elasticity.

How to properly prepare ghassoul clay?

Ghassoul clay is versatile, as it can be used for both hair and skin.

Its preparation is very simple. Just mix a small amount of clay with warm water until a consistent paste forms, neither too hard nor watery. It is important to mix it in a glass, wooden, or ceramic container, not a metal one, to avoid absorbing metallic particles.

Ghassoul clay on the skin

If you want to use ghassoul clay on your skin, we'll show you how to do it in two different ways.

You can use it to purify your face and body. Apply it to a wet face or body and gently massage as an exfoliant for one minute. Then, rinse thoroughly with water to remove any remaining product.

As a mask, apply it all over your face (except around the eyes and lips) and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Then, wash your face thoroughly with water and moisturize with a moisturizing face cream.

Ghassoul clay on hair

Ghassoul clay, just like on skin, purifies the scalp. To do this, wet your hair completely, apply the mixture to your scalp with gentle massages, and leave it on for 5-15 minutes. Then, rinse your hair thoroughly with water to remove any remaining product and wash it with your usual shampoo.
